Asylum 13 Ogre is one of those cigars that grabs your attention before you even light it. The first thing you’ll notice is the wrapper. It’s a barber pole design, two different types of tobacco leaves—dark Habano Maduro and green Candela. This two-tone spiral look is what gives the Ogre its name and boldness. It’s not just for show either—the wrapper adds flavor and a smooth smoking experience.
Made in Nicaragua with Nicaraguan tobacco on the inside too. Sizes range from 5×50 to 7×70 and 8×80, one of the biggest cigars in the Asylum 13 line. Despite the big ring gauge the draw is steady and the burn is smooth all the way through. Not too strong at first but builds up slowly. Most would say medium to full bodied.
The flavors are pepper and spice at first. As it burns chocolate, coffee and cream start to show up. You might get earthy tones, cedar and a hint of sweetness. The Candela leaf adds a grassy taste and a floral hint that balances out the richer flavors. Long and flavorful with lots of complexity but not harsh.
